UPDATE: Contrary to Gal Gadot’s claim of a third Wonder Woman movie under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, Variety states otherwise. Sources indicate that there’s no plan for a new Wonder Woman film, only the live-action series “Paradise Lost” set in Themyscira.
Gadot had previously expressed excitement about working on “Wonder Woman 3” with Gunn and Safran to ComicBook.com.
Wonder Woman is set to grace the silver screen once more, with Gal Gadot teaming up with Superman: Legacy’s director James Gunn.
The Dawn of a New Era for DC Universe
Under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, the DC Universe on film is steering towards an exciting new direction. Yet, the future of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman remains intricately woven into this cinematic universe. Gadot’s debut as Diana Prince began in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She then led the charge in 2017’s Wonder Woman and its sequel Wonder Woman 1984, with Chris Pine by her side as Steve Trevor.
With Gunn and Safran at the helm of the revamped DC Studios for Warner Bros., original plans for Patty Jenkins to return for Wonder Woman 3 were scrapped. This left fans questioning Gadot’s continued presence in the iconic role. The ambiguity only increased when Gadot had cameos in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, featuring Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck, and Henry Cavill (sorta).
In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, Gadot confirmed her participation in the development of Wonder Woman 3 alongside Gunn and Safran. “Portraying Wonder Woman is a labor of love for me. I am thrilled to be working with James and Peter on Wonder Woman 3,” she reveals.
Gadot’s Thoughts on the New Superman Casting
David Corenswet has recently been unveiled as Clark Kent in the upcoming Superman: Legacy, under Gunn’s direction, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane. Gadot shares her optimism about the casting process, expressing her confidence in the abilities of those involved.
“I was aware of the screen tests taking place and it seemed like the contenders were immensely talented. I am excited for whoever bags the role and wish them the best on this thrilling journey,” says Gadot.
Wonder Woman’s Path in the Revamped DC Universe
The trajectory of Wonder Woman within Gunn and Safran’s vision of the DC Universe remains uncertain. Currently, there are no mentions of a Wonder Woman movie in the line-up for “Gods and Monsters,” the first chapter of the new DC Universe.
Despite this, fans can look forward to Paradise Lost, a Max series set on Themiscyra featuring the intrigue-ridden lives of the Amazons. Gunn has also hinted at a potential animated Wonder Woman series.
Gal Gadot Starring in Netflix’s Heart of Stone
In the Netflix thriller Heart of Stone, Gadot steps into the role of spy Rachel Stone. The film follows the exploits of an intelligence operative, the sole force preventing her global peacekeeping organization from losing its most valuable — and volatile — asset.
Directed by Tom Harper and penned by Greg Rucka (The Old Guard) and Allison Schroeder, Heart of Stone features Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt alongside Gadot. Catch Heart of Stone on Netflix from August 11th onwards.
