‘Shayda’ made its grand debut earlier this year at Sundance Film Festival, where it garnered accolades such as the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic section. The film seamlessly intertwines the tale of Shayda, a young Iranian mother, and her six-year-old daughter as they navigate their way through the tumultuous period of Iranian New Year, seeking asylum in an Australian women’s shelter.
The ensemble cast, along with Zahra Amir Ebrahimi (Holy Spider), boasts names like Osamah Sami, Leah Purcell, Jillian Nguyen, Mojean Aria, Selina Zahednia, and Rina Mousavi. Adding to the film’s sparkle, this year Australia has selected ‘Shayda’ as its submission for the esteemed Academy Awards.
