Niecy Nash shared her experience working with Travis Kelce during his first foray into acting in the new Ryan Murphy horror series Grotesquerie. “You know what, I’m pleasantly surprised. He’s doing really well,” Nash told Entertainment Tonight.
Kelce’s Acting Debut
Nash detailed how she has been working with Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, on set, helping him rehearse his lines. Describing their rehearsals, Nash said they often involved “us sitting around eating In-N-Out reading words off a piece of paper.”
Kelce, 34, recently shared his excitement about his role on “Grotesquerie.” During the May 15 episode of his and his brother Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Kelce discussed filming his acting debut and praised Murphy’s faith in him. “He seemed very confident that I’d be able to do this, and he kinda injected that in me the first conversation that we had. So hopefully I don’t bomb this for him,” Kelce said.
Surprise Revelation
In May, Nash first revealed Kelce’s involvement in the series via an Instagram video of the pair on set. In the clip, Nash introduces Kelce with excitement, to which Kelce responds, “Jumping into new territory with Niecy!” Kelce also shared this post on his Instagram Stories, expressing his enthusiasm for working with Nash.
According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, filming was an enjoyable experience for Kelce. “Travis had an incredible time filming,” the source said, adding that Kelce has completed shooting his scenes. Another insider shared that Murphy personally contacted Kelce to join the “Grotesquerie” cast, a surprise opportunity for the athlete.
Expanding Horizons
Beyond acting, Kelce is also venturing into television hosting. In March, he was announced as the host of Amazon Prime Video’s new game show, Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, a reimagined version of the classic Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? “I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one,” Kelce said in a statement.
