On Monday, March 25, Penn Badgley was spotted on the streets of New York City filming scenes for the fifth and final season of popular Netflix series, “You”. The 37-year-old actor, famously known for his role as Joe Goldberg, a man with a violent streak, on the series, appeared reminiscent of his former “Gossip Girl” character, looking slightly forlorn in a black peacoat, maroon shirt, and navy blue slacks.
Netflix confirmed on the same day via Instagram that production on the final season of “You” had officially started. Season 4, which aired in two parts in the previous year, ended with Goldberg settling in New York City after an eventful spell in London. The new season follows Goldberg’s story as he navigates family ties with his in-laws and other characters.
In relation to the cast, Griffin Matthews has been confirmed as Kate’s brother, Teddy Lockwood. “Pitch Perfect” alum Anna Camp joins the series as Reagan and Maddie Lockwood, Goldberg’s twin sisters-in-law. Madeline Brewer will portray Bronte, a mysterious playwright who is set to work at Goldberg’s new bookstore. Co-showrunner duties for this season will be taken over by Michael Foley and Justin W Lo, replacing the original creator, Sera Gamble.
Netflix shared a teaser for the upcoming season in June 2023, during the Brazilian fan convention TUDUM. The footage showed Badgley directly addressing the audience, prompting speculation about the character’s fate in the final season.
