Having commanded a whopping $1.4 billion at the global box office, Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” stands as a crowning jewel of Mattel’s film catalogue. Not missing a beat, Mattel gave the nod to a colossal 14 subsequent films, all of which are at different points in their development journey. Notably, this massive venture doesn’t yet feature a sequel to the money-spinning “Barbie”.
Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ Sequel Uncertainty
While it might be easy to take Margot Robbie’s recent comments about doubting a Barbie sequel at face value, caution is recommended. Speaking to the AP, Robbie stated, “I think we put everything we had into this one. We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something. Greta [Gerwig] put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.” The underlying message here might simply be that they’re waiting for the right offer.
A Sequel for ‘Barbie’ Seems Inevitable
In the glittering labyrinth of Hollywood, money is a key influencer. Refraining from creating a sequel to the billion-dollar grossing “Barbie” is virtually unimaginable.
