New era of Superman: David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan soar into ‘Superman: Legacy

The iconic roles of Superman and Lois Lane have found new faces in Hollywood, with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan securing the leads in the eagerly anticipated film, ‘Superman: Legacy’. Slated for a 2025 summer release, this new-age superhero flick aims to redefine the DC Universe.

Stepping into the shoes of the heroic alien from Krypton is David Corenswet, a rising star who carved a name for himself in productions like the Netflix series ‘The Politician’ and the acclaimed miniseries ‘We Own This City’. On the other hand, Emmy-winner Rachel Brosnahan, recognized for her compelling performances in ‘House of Cards’ and ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’, will portray Lois Lane, the tenacious reporter and Superman’s love interest.

Superman: Legacy is expected to explore the intricate dynamic of Superman’s dual identity, balancing his extraterrestrial heritage with his human upbringing. The project marks a fresh era for DC as part of its new initiative titled ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters’, promising an exciting lineup of films and TV shows over the next decade.

James Gunn, the new captain steering the Superman franchise, expressed his confidence in the selected actors. Having taken over alongside producer Peter Safran, Gunn labelled ‘Superman: Legacy’ as “the true beginning of the DCU.”

Corenswet and Brosnahan secured the roles after an impressive screen test, according to Deadline. They follow in the footsteps of the exclusive club of actors who have portrayed Superman on the big screen, namely Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill. With Cavill’s departure last year, this fresh casting offers a promising new direction for the beloved superhero legacy.
