Inside Out 2 Still King, Quiet Place Prequel Has Monster Opening

For the fourth week, moviegoers flocked to theaters thanks to Pixar’s Inside Out 2 and Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One.

The animated sequel remained dominant, grossing $57.4 million in its third weekend, raising its domestic total to $469.3 million. This makes Inside Out 2 Pixar’s third-highest-grossing picture domestically, behind only Finding Dory ($486.3M) and Incredibles 2 ($608.6M). Worldwide, its $1.014 billion haul places it fifth behind Dory ($1.025B), Toy Story 3 ($1.068B), Toy Story 4 ($1.072B), and Incredibles 2 ($1.242B).

Elsewhere, A Quiet Place: Day One earned $53 million in its domestic debut and $98.5 million globally, setting a franchise record. It’s domestic earnings narrowly surpassed the $50 million earned by A Quiet Place and the $47 million by A Quiet Place: Part II. The film received a B+ CinemaScore, with Imax contributing $5.8 million to its total.

Kevin Costner’s Horizon had a disappointing debut, earning just $11 million against a $100 million budget. The western was given a B- CinemaScore, and its sequel is set to release next month.

This week sees the release of Despicable Me 4, which has already shown strong performance abroad and is expected to earn $100 million over the July 4 holiday.
