Showrunner Eric Kripke announced the final season on social media.
The Boys will reach its final showdown soon. Prime Video’s hit series, helmed by Eric Kripke, will wrap up with its fifth season. Kripke shared this news on social media Tuesday, ahead of the season four premiere.
Kripke revealed, “Season 4 premiere week is a good time to announce: Season 5 will be the final season! Always my plan, I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax.” His post on X included a redacted script page from the season four finale, featuring a cheeky message: “See you for our final season, motherfuckers!”
The Boys, a major success for Prime Video, regularly lands in Nielsen’s streaming top 10 when new episodes air. It has also led to spinoffs like Gen V and an animated anthology, Diabolical. Despite the industry’s budget cuts, Kripke shared with The Hollywood Reporter that The Boys remains a priority for Prime Video, allowing them a level of creative freedom.
“We’ve been lucky in that The Boys has become one of their flagships. We get a level of freedom that it’ll be hard to repeat anywhere,” Kripke said. “That said, we have budget battles. But, ultimately, we figure out a way. We made Gen V for a lot less money, and there’s a target that we have to hit on that show — whether we like it or not. There’s a couple of things in development. You have to pre-negotiate the budgets, and those budgets are a lot tighter than what we’ve had in the past. So, we’re feeling it.”
Sony Pictures Television produces The Boys alongside Amazon MGM Studios, Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures. Executive producers include Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, Judalina Neira, Ken F. Levin, and Jason Netter.
