Jason Antoon revealed in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly about his strong bond with his “NCIS: Hawai’i” co-star, Vanessa Lachey. Interestingly, they share the same birth date (November 9th) with Vanessa’s husband, Nick Lachey. Whenever their mutual birthday coincides with a filming day, the celebration includes a large cake for everyone on set.
Antoon, who portrays tech guru Ernie Malik on the CBS series, shared that his connection with Vanessa intensified during a luau party she hosted at her residence in Encino, California. From then on, the relationship between the two actors, both born under the Scorpio sign, was something he describes as an “instantaneous” meeting of minds.
“No Asshole” Policy on NCIS: Hawai’i Set
According to Antoon, the uniqueness of the relationship and camaraderie among the “NCIS: Hawai’i” team members is partly due to a ‘no asshole’ policy implemented by the showrunner. This policy, he believes, adds value and ensures a positive and productive work atmosphere on the series.
Antoon’s Favorite Role Features
Antoon enjoys his character, Ernie Malik’s, relationships with fellow characters Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami) and Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson). He finds pleasure and intrigue in portraying Ernie as someone who digs into his colleagues’ personal lives, teasing out detailed information about them.
Hopeful Crossovers in the Future
With “NCIS: Hawai’i” team members previously appearing on the original “NCIS” show, the bond between the two show casts has reportedly been great. Consequently, Antoon is hopeful for more crossover episodes in future seasons, similar to the Marvel universe. He believes this strategy could yield positive results, as it has done before with “NCIS: LA” and the original “NCIS.”
