HBO has released the first official teaser trailer for Season 2 of The Last of Us, accompanied by three striking posters featuring key characters. Set against the haunting backdrop of Pearl Jam’s “Future Days,” the teaser continues the post-apocalyptic journey of survivors Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey), and Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna).
The upcoming season introduces a host of new cast members, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Fans can also look forward to a guest appearance by Catherine O’Hara.
While specific plot details are still under wraps, the new season promises to delve deeper into the complexities of Joel and Ellie’s relationship. Five years of relative peace are disrupted as their past catches up with them, leading to new conflicts and a world even more perilous than before.
The first season of The Last of Us, which premiered in 2023, became HBO’s most-watched debut season ever. It garnered eight Emmy nominations, including nods for Pascal and Ramsey’s performances and for Best Drama Series.
The timing of the teaser’s release aligns with “The Last of Us Day” on September 26, commemorating the day the cordyceps virus outbreak occurred in the original video game by Naughty Dog.
The series is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. It’s a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and includes executive producers Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells.
