Is all the excitement over Marvel’s reimagining of the ‘Fantastic Four’ merely a Twitter frenzy, or do average filmgoers share the sentiment? With high-profile casting, incessant rumors, and increasing online chatter, the buzz surrounding the project continues to grow massively. But the question remains: is the hype worth it?
The Excitement, Speculations, and Rumors Around ‘Fantastic Four’
Sizzling in the rumor mill, actress Anya Taylor-Joy is purportedly in discussions about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in an undisclosed role. Rife speculation suggests that she may portray a gender-swapped Silver Surfer. Interestingly, Taylor-Joy played another Marvel character, Illyana Rasputin (a.k.a. Magik), in Fox’s X-Men spinoff, “The New Mutants,” which, unfortunately, didn’t land well with viewers.
Given the reception of Marvel’s recent projects, some question why an actress of Taylor-Joy’s caliber would opt to join the MCU. However, considering her impressive filmography – including “The Witch,” “Last Night in Soho,” “The Northman” and “The Menu” – her involvement could potentially add a fresh layer to the comic-giant’s projects. Taylor-Joy’s upcoming role in the Mad Max prequel “Furiosa,” directed by George Miller, has also sparked intrigue among film enthusiasts.
More celebrity names getting associated with the project
Moreover, ‘Fantastic Four’-related Twitter speculation includes Pedro Pascal taking on the role of Reed Richards. Additionally, Javier Bardem is rumored to be up for the role of Galactus.
Who’s directing?
Amidst doubts about the ambitious project that’s likely to have a budget surpassing $200 million, the appointment of director Matt Shakman feels pivotal. Marvel’s president, Kevin Feige, selected TV director Shakman, known for his works in “WandaVision” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Shakman’s only feature film, 2014’s “Cut Bank,” fared poorly with critics and moviegoers alike.
After two dismal attempts in 2005 and 2007, and the disappointing ‘Fant4stic’ reboot in 2015, Marvel is planning another cinematic adaptation of Fantastic Four. As long as the MCU uses lesser-known filmmakers without giving them creative liberty, their fate remains uncertain.
Production And Release Schedule
‘Fantastic Four’ is set to kickstart its production at Pinewood Studios in London in Spring 2024. The movie will hit the theatres on May 2, 2025, and find its place in Phase 5 of the MCU and the Multiverse Saga.
