Digital release date announced for new DC hero movie ‘Blue Beetle’

Caught in a whirlwind of surprise hits and unexpected hurdles, Warner Bros. Discovery’s “Blue Beetle” has made a name for itself, particularly amongst its Latin fanbase. Despite setbacks like the SAG-AFTRA strike, the film, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, soared at the box office. Eager followers of Jaime Reyes would be thrilled to know that “Blue Beetle” is set to hit the digital realm on September 26. However, its stint on Max remains uncertain. Globally, the film bagged $121.5 million, earning the title of DC’s least grossing film. But don’t be quick to write off Jaime Reyes just yet—he’s here to stay in DC’s future plans.

Ready to zoom into the digital universe, “Blue Beetle” first took flight in theaters in August. Albeit a setback for DC and Warner Bros. Pictures, the film managed to charm a large fraction of its audience—thanks especially to the hero’s dedicated fanbase. Moving away from his martial arts roots, Xolo Maridueña fights a different battle in “Blue Beetle”, making him the first hero of the new universe, masterminded by James Gunn.

The Jaime Reyes fandom, particularly prevalent within the Latin community, significantly boosted the film’s box office performance. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. Discovery’s organizational changes and the SAG-AFTRA strike negatively affected “Blue Beetle’s” theater run, escalating anticipation for its digital release.

Fans can look forward to enjoying “Blue Beetle” in the comfort of their homes, as its digital release was confirmed on the film’s official page, set for September 26. Delays may occur for its Max premiere, but that doesn’t dampen the anticipations.

Despite underperforming in the box office and fetching a meager $121.5 million globally, Jaime Reyes is here to stay in the DCU’s future. On the contrary, we have little to no hope of seeing Zachary Levi reprising the role of the World’s Mightiest Mortal in the near future.

The storyline follows the life of Jaime Reyes, a 20-something who thrusts himself in a whirl of chaos when he comes back to his aging town after earning his college degree. Things go astray when his familiar environment is in turmoil—his family on the brink of losing their modest home, owing to the ever-expanding Kord Industries. Anxious to lend a hand, Jaime finds himself nurturing a mysterious object—the scarab—under the instructions of Kord’s CEO daughter, Jennifer. The scarab chooses him to be its bearer, equipping him with Blue Beetle’s powers, and putting his family in the face of danger from the menacing Victoria Kord, the CEO hunting for the scarab to transform it into a potent weapon.

With an ensemble cast of Maridueña portraying Jaime, Bruna Marquezine as Jenny Kord, Damián Alcázar as Alberto Reyes, Elpidia Carrillo as Rocío Reyes, Adriana Barraza as Nana Reyes, Belissa Escobedo as Milagro Reyes, George Lopez as Uncle Rudy, Raoul Trujillo as Ignacio Carapax, and Susan Sarandon as Victoria Kord, “Blue Beetle” is set to entertain and enthrall.
