Sacred Heart Hospital is reopening its doors. ABC has officially ordered a reboot of Scrubs for the 2025-2026 season, with Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke leading the return. According to Variety, more familiar faces from the original ensemble are expected to scrub back in as well.
The logline teases a mix of nostalgia and new challenges: “JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time—medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart, and some surprises along the way.”
The original series debuted on NBC in 2001 and quickly became a cult favorite thanks to its mix of slapstick comedy, heartfelt drama, and frequent daydream cutaways. It ran for seven seasons before shifting to ABC in 2009 for a final bow with the aptly titled episode “The Finale.” That should have been the end, but the 2010 spinoff season Scrubs: Med School muddied the waters, introducing a new cast while keeping Braff and Faison around. Fans never really considered it canon, and many are already calling the reboot “the real season 9.”
The hype started when Braff posted a teaser video of himself and Faison in scrubs, coyly telling fans, “We’ve got something to tell you today. What do you think it is?” Faison followed up with a group throwback captioned “Hello again,” and Chalke added fuel with a gleeful “YAY!!!!!” alongside an old cast photo.
For longtime viewers who weren’t satisfied with the way the series wrapped up 15 years ago, this reboot promises a shot at redemption. The bromance is intact, the scalpel humor is sharp, and Sacred Heart still has plenty of stories to tell.
