Hulu’s Buffy, the Vampire Slayer reboot reveals new lead to join Sarah Michelle Gellar

Hulu’s upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has found its new Slayer: 15-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Armstrong, known for her roles in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and the 2022 Firestarter remake, will star opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar, who returns to her iconic role as Buffy Summers in a recurring capacity. Gellar also serves as an executive producer on the project.

Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals) is set to helm the pilot, with Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face) writing and showrunning. The new series introduces a fresh protagonist, Nova, an introverted high school student who becomes the latest Slayer. The reboot aims to capture the spirit of the original while exploring new narratives within the Buffyverse.

The involvement of original executive producers, including Gail Berman and Dolly Parton, alongside Gellar’s return, adds authenticity to the revival. However, creator Joss Whedon will not participate due to past allegations of misconduct. Gellar emphasized the importance of honoring the original series and its fans, stating that the project will only proceed if they can achieve their vision correctly.

Fans can look forward to a blend of nostalgia and fresh storytelling when the reboot premieres on Hulu.
