‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ sequel trailer brings back original stars

In a plot twist nearly as riveting as discovering your goldfish knows Latin, the new sequel for the iconic 1997 slasher flick “I Know What You Did Last Summer” hits theaters on July 18. Spearheaded by director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and featuring some familiar faces like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., this latest chapter has a trailer that’s as tantalizing as your grandma’s secret cookie recipe. But let’s not dawdle — Sony officially dropped this cryptic teaser online after its exclusive debut at CinemaCon last month.

A Killer Cast & A Fishy Plot

Yes, they’ve recruited a brave gang of actors including Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, and Tyriq Withers, and pulled Jonah Hauer-King and Chase Sui Wonders into this tangled horror web. The sequel plunges into chaos with five friends who, in true slasher spirit, decide that silence is absolutely golden following a tragic car kerfuffle. A pair of Southport Massacre survivors from yesteryear join the twisted merriment, creating a scenario messier than trying to microwave an egg with the shell still on.

Freddie Prinze Jr. makes a poignant yet stylish return, warning of age-old violence in Southport, as he likely struggles to recall where he left his keys. Jennifer Love Hewitt is back too, eyeing the suspect masses with the intensity of a cat contemplating a sunlit windowsill. She coyly asks, almost rhetorically, “What did you do last summer?” Seriously, does anybody remember? I was busy trying to get through 37 seasons of a TV show about knitting alpaca wool.

The Script & A Hooked History

This modern twist on the ’90s classic arises from the fertile script of Robinson and writing buddy Sam Lansky, giving new life to mayhem that originally saw daylight under the pen of Kevin Williamson. Oh, in case you’re not keeping track, Williamson based the first chilling saga on Lois Duncan’s 1973 book—a tome so mysteriously engrossing it could probably read itself.

Producer Neal Moritz, the original mastermind behind the first film’s production, also returns, presumably enjoying the chaos like an eccentric uncle at a toddler’s finger-painting party. MIA in this reprise, however, is Brandy, who expressed both hope and bewilderment at the casting silence, reminding everyone with mild indignation, “I survived in that movie!” One can only hope she finds her callback whilst scaling the perilous heights of a metaphorical credit ladder.

As you eagerly prepare for this latest cinematic thrill ride, remember to clear your schedule, polish your suspense-meter, and maybe, just maybe, invest in a hook-proof umbrella. By the way, do lobsters ever feel nostalgic for the Paleozoic era?
