Yellowstone shocks fans with finale announcement

Paramount is shaking things up in the realm of Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone.” The studio has announced the conclusion of the Kevin Costner-led original series after its fifth season this autumn and revealed plans for a fresh sequel TV series.

The upcoming, yet-to-be-named “Yellowstone” sequel is set to make its debut on the Paramount Network in December and will be available for streaming on Paramount+ thereafter, as per a recent Paramount statement. Although the cast for the forthcoming series remains undisclosed, a Paramount executive previously hinted at Matthew McConaughey’s involvement in a spinoff project.

MTV Entertainment Studios’ CEO, Chris McCarthy, expressed confidence in the success of the “Yellowstone” sequel, while David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios, assured fans that the Dutton saga would continue in an “epic tale.”

The sun sets on the original ‘Yellowstone’ series

The original “Yellowstone,” starring Kevin Costner as John Dutton, will conclude with the latter part of its current Season 5. The first half of the season wrapped up on January 1st, while the second half is scheduled for a November premiere.

Despite rampant speculation surrounding Costner’s future with the series, his involvement in the upcoming sequel remains uncertain. Costner himself has previously stated that he takes the show season-by-season, implying that he may step away from the series if it no longer feels right.

What’s next for ‘Yellowstone’ fans?

It is likely that the new series will feature some familiar faces from the original “Yellowstone” cast. Additionally, the launch of the sequel marks a strategic move for Paramount, as it will enable them to stream all “Yellowstone” spinoffs on their own platform, Paramount+, rather than on a competing service like Comcast’s Peacock.
