Freya Allan Hints at Major Transformation for Ciri and Geralt in ‘The Witcher’ Season 4

Liam Hemsworth won’t be the only change in the upcoming fourth season of The Witcher, as star Freya Allan has revealed that her character, Ciri, and Hemsworth’s Geralt of Rivia won’t even cross paths. The new season, expected to hit Netflix late in 2025, will see Hemsworth taking over the pivotal role from Henry Cavill, who announced in 2022 that he would not be returning to the series. Allan will continue her role as Ciri, which she has played since the show’s premiere in 2019.

Appearing at San Diego Comic-Con (per Screen Rant), Allan was on hand to discuss the recent success of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and took the time to touch on the upcoming season of The Witcher. She revealed that Ciri and Geralt would have “no relationship” in Season 4, with her character focused solely on forging her own path forward.

“There’s no relationship this season,” Allan stated. “Ciri’s off on her own path and he’s off on his own, and so it’s, ‘Forget about Geralt.’ That’s what Ciri’s in the zone of. ‘Let’s try and block that out. That never happened. Now I’m Falka; I’m not Ciri.’ But as you can see, I sort of haven’t left it behind. I’m sort of still in it now.”

Fans will recall that Falka is the name Ciri gave herself after she was saved from bounty hunters at the end of Season 3, having been rescued by the ragtag group of young criminals known as The Rats. It seems the new season will focus on her journey with the gang and what she does on her own without the protection of Geralt to act as a cushion.

As for how Allan feels about Hemsworth taking over for Cavill, she admits she hasn’t seen any of his work as Geralt yet.

“But Liam’s lovely; he’s a really nice guy,” she shared. “I haven’t seen anything he’s done because we don’t really have scenes together, but he’s so sweet. I’ve heard that he’s smashing it, so I can’t wait to see what he’s doing.”

Let’s Just Give Liam a Chance

While fans might not have taken too kindly to the news that Hemsworth would be replacing Cavill, they’re quick to forget that when the initial reveal of Cavill as Geralt was released, longtime lovers of Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels were skeptical, saying there was no way he’d do justice to the character. When The Witcher premiered, however, Cavill ended up being praised for his performance, with those same naysayers admitting they were wrong.

Could that be the case with Hemsworth? Perhaps, but he’s in a different situation. With Cavill portraying Geralt across three seasons, audiences have grown comfortable with him, and now they have to adjust to someone else in the same role. Hemsworth will be expected to embody the same mannerisms, speech patterns, and presence that Cavill brought to the role—a challenging task for any actor.

With The Witcher heading into its final two seasons, fans would do well to remember the initial outcry over Cavill as Geralt and be open to Hemsworth’s take if they want to enjoy the continuation of the story. Who knows? He might surprise everyone, and by the time it’s all said and done, we might be sad to see him go just as we were when Cavill bid us all adieu.
