Henry Cavill Unpacks If ‘Argylle’ Role Could Affect His James Bond Chances

Buzz for Henry Cavill’s role as a spy in the forthcoming action comedy “Argylle” is reaching fever pitch, but could Cavill’s performance influence his prospects of assuming the much speculated role of James Bond? Despite being a fan-favorite for the iconic 007 role for years, Cavill remains unsure.

“It’s a fun character. Whether I’m ruled out of Bond because of this or not is up to Barbara Broccoli and Mr. Wilson,” explained Cavill, referring to longtime 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

While the fate of Cavill’s Bond prospects remains uncertain, the actor revealed his enthusiasm for his ‘Argylle’ character, making playing the spy an enjoyable ride. Could Argylle on its own become a new spy franchise?

Cavill Talks About His Haircut in ‘Argylle’

The actor’s unconventional hairstyle for the film, arguably one of the most talked about elements of his character, also forms a significant part of his identity in the film. In a conversation with Total Film, Cavill shared the story behind his ‘Argylle’ haircut, attributing it to director Matthew Vaughn’s creative vision.

“Matthew came up with it, and said, ‘Look, trust me, I can make it look good.’ You know what? You don’t just wake up and have a flattop. It takes work. I don’t know if I have the time or the patience for that kind of carry-on when it comes to my hair, in real life”, Cavill chuckled.

‘Argylle’ Could Spawn a New Spy Franchise for Henry Cavill

Beyond the Bond speculation, ‘Argylle‘ might introduce an altogether new spy franchise for Cavill. Matthew Vaughn, the film’s director, has already made public his plans for a sequel, hinting a series that could showcase a younger version of the actor’s character.

“Book one is about: how did Argylle become a spy? That will be the next film. And then Argylle 2 is – I don’t want to give it all away, but there’s the young Argylle, and that becomes Henry, because Henry loves the idea of doing a proper Argylle movie as well”, shared Vaughn.

Filled with thrilling action scenes, tinged with humor, and built on an intriguing spy backstory, ‘Argylle‘ is expected to release on February 2, 2024. The illustrious cast features Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Ariana DeBose, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella, and Samuel L. Jackson alongside Cavill.

With ‘Argylle’ poised to explode into cinemas soon, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding Cavill in his latest on-screen evolution.
