The first trailer for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Christmas movie, Red One, is finally here, and it’s a sight to behold. Co-starring Chris Evans, this action-adventure extravaganza features a hilariously buff Santa (J.K. Simmons) who gets kidnapped. Naturally, the North Pole’s head of security, Callum Drift (Johnson), has to team up with shady tracker Jack O’Malley (Evans) to rescue the jolly old man and, of course, save Christmas. Despite being billed as a comedy, the trailer shows everyone playing their roles with a straight face, making the ridiculousness even more spectacular.
Shot way back in 2022, Red One was originally slated for a Prime Video release around Christmas 2023. But because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the film got pushed to November 15th 2024, aiming for a theatrical release. And let’s not forget the production hurdles—like the ballooning budget and whispers of Johnson’s diva behavior on set, reportedly showing up seven to eight hours late for his call time. However, Amazon MGM Studios is all sunshine and rainbows, boasting about the film’s positive reception at this year’s CinemaCon. Apparently, the footage wowed a select group of journalists handpicked by Johnson’s publicist.
