Disney’s Moana 2 is officially on the horizon, bringing back Moana and Maui for another oceanic adventure. The initial teaser trailers, however, reveal little about the plot, only confirming that Moana will be sailing the seas with additional characters.
A standout feature from the teaser is the introduction of a massive whale shark, which has captured the attention of fans. The trailer provides glimpses of other new sea creatures, background characters, and humorous moments featuring Maui.
The official synopsis for Moana 2 outlines the plot: Moana and Maui reunite three years later for a new voyage with a diverse crew. After an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana embarks on a journey to the remote and perilous waters of Oceania, facing challenges unlike any before.
Originally planned as a Disney Plus series, Moana 2 has been adapted into a feature film. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Auliʻi Cravalho return as Maui and Moana. The sequel’s music team includes Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, composer Opetaia Foa’i, and film composer Mark Mancina. David Derrick Jr., who worked on Raya and the Last Dragon and Encanto, directs the film.
Moana 2 is scheduled for release on November 27.
