Godzilla X Kong Director Adam Wingard Hints at Third Movie Plans

The 2021 “Godzilla vs Kong” introduced the two title monsters clashing for the first time in a Hollywood production, later joining forces against Mechagodzilla. Now, they are set to return in a second installment, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”. Director Adam Wingard is entertaining the idea of a third movie to complete the MonsterVerse trilogy, contingent on the success of the second movie.

Future Plans for MonsterVerse

Although Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have not formally announced it, Wingard revealed to DiscussingFilm that he has considered a third installment for Godzilla and Kong. He expressed enthusiasm about the idea, emphasizing that there is more story to tell if “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”, set to come out in March 2024, performs well.

Potential New Installment

In April 2021, a month after the premier of “Godzilla vs. Kong”, Wingard reportedly began discussions about another MonsterVerse movie. The idea for the film, initially referred to as “Godzilla vs. Kong 2”, was officially announced in March 2022. Wingard believes that having worked on two movies, he might as well complete the trilogy.

Anticipating the Response

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are expected to consider the response to “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” before deciding on the future of the franchise. Wingard’s early establishment of a storyline for a potential third movie means he could swiftly begin its development should it be approved.
