In what seems to be the speediness of Hollywood’s movie production, MindRiot Entertainment is working hard on a new project. This film is inspired by the poignant OceanGate submersible implosion tragedy that occurred just months ago, in June. The company has managed to bring on board E. Brian Dobbins, famed for his work on the comedy slasher, ‘The Blackening’, and the popular TV series, ‘Black-ish’, to co-produce the promising venture.
As the film develops, Justin MacGregor and Jonathan Keasey from MindRiot have taken on the weighty task of writing the script. The movie, currently titled ‘Salvaged’, coincidentally shares its name with a docuseries that’s also being created by MindRiot.
In a poignant public statement, Keasey, a lawyer-turned-filmmaker, explains the profound message behind the film:
“The Titan Tragedy is yet another example of a misinformed and quick-to-pounce system; our nonstop, 24-7 media cycle that convicts and ruins the lives of so many people without any due process. Our film will not only honor all those involved in the submersible tragedy and their families but the feature will also address a more macro concern about the reality of media today.”
In his candid expression, Keasey reveals the movie’s purpose is to provide the public with the truth about the incident involving the Titanic operated by OceanGate that fatally imploded during an expedition to view the Titanic wreckage.
“Truth is all that matters. And the world has a right to know the vindicating truth, unblemished by the distorted narratives peddled for momentary fame. Life is scarcely black and white. It’s complicated, intricate and nuanced.”
The OceanGate Film: A Dive into True Events
Although still guarded with further details about the film, Deadline reveals that the movie plans to cover the catastrophic moments before, during, and after the five-day tragedy that claimed the lives of five people.
Tragically, Titan went missing on June 18 with five prominent persons on board, namely the American CEO of OceanGate Stockton Rush; French deep-sea explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet; British businessman Hamish Harding, and Pakistani-British businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman. As oxygen levels dwindled, a palpable sense of dread descended, culminating in the heartrending realization that the craft had imploded, taking all five lives.
MindRiot’s initiative to produce a docuseries alongside this film seems poised to amplify its message further. MindRiot founder Jonathan Keasey hails the series as an exploration of true courage and heroism, saying, “The Titan tragedy is reminiscent of the Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster of 1986: it’s a tragedy I’ll never forget.”
