One Piece Producers Shars Plans for Future Seasons

Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Takes Viewers By Storm

Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the legendary manga series ‘One Piece’ has created quite the sensation. Topping charts and surpassing popular shows like ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Wednesday,’ it’s safe to say that ‘One Piece’ has set an unprecedented benchmark in the world of streaming television, immediately gathering positive responses from both fanatics of the manga and critics alike.

Production Team’s Plans for Future Seasons

With the massive success of the first season, producers Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements have no plans of stopping anytime soon. They’ve expressed their ambition for the hit series to run for multiple seasons, with the hope that they would only cover half of the manga’s vast universe even after six seasons. News on a potential second season renewal is eagerly awaited by devoted fans, and if comments from the producers are anything to go by, it won’t be long until it’s announced.

In an interview with Deadline, the power duo revealed their plans for future seasons of ‘One Piece,’ sharing that they, together with showrunner Matt Owens, have already plotted the course. They’re committed to preserving the integral parts of the manga, emphasizing the importance of staying true to the story and characters in order to please the fans.

“We’re over 1,080 chapters at this point in the manga… We have plans with Matt Owens for how we would break multiple seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we would probably only use up half of the chapters of the manga. It really could go on and on and on. Everything we do is in concert with Netflix, [manga publisher] Shueisha and Oda-san, they are a part of that conversation.”

Becky Clements stated that the team is unified in preserving the integral parts of the manga which, according to her, is their guiding principle.

Speculations on the Potential Second Season

As of now, ‘One Piece’ definitely does not lack material for future content with 106 volumes of manga and 1,075 animated episodes being aired. If the first season was any indication, producers seem to have a knack for choosing the best narratives based on Eiichiro Oda’s work.

The first season closes with the reveal of Luffy as a pirate on a wanted poster. The Straw Hat Pirates crew finally comes together, complete with their ship as they plan to make headway to the Grand Line in search of the One Piece. The anticipated second season will likely continue with Luffy and his troupe escaping from the Navy’s clutches and fending off rival pirates on their journey to unearth the sought-after treasure.

As the anticipation builds up, fans can enjoy the first season of ‘One Piece’ currently streaming on Netflix.
