HBO has released a trailer for ‘The Franchise’, a new comedy series that satirizes the making of a superhero movie franchise. The series offers a humorous behind-the-scenes look at the chaotic efforts to launch a cinematic universe akin to Marvel or DC.
From executive producers Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, Julie Pastor, Armando Iannucci, Jon Brown, and Jim Kleverweis, the story revolves around “the crew of an unloved franchise movie fighting for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe.” The show aims to illuminate the “secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking,” posing the question: “How exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every fck-up has an origin story.”*
The trailer highlights the absurdity faced by the cast and crew of Tecto: Eye of the Storm, an attempted superhero blockbuster. They contend with malfunctioning pyrotechnics, disheartened actors, uncooperative animals, and an angry set visit from a thinly veiled Kevin Feige stand-in. Himesh Patel‘s character humorously describes their predicament as “a scrotum resting on a razor’s edge,” capturing the precarious nature of their situation.
‘The Franchise’ stars Himesh Patel as Daniel, Aya Cash as Anita, Jessica Hynes as Steph, Billy Magnussen as Adam, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Darren Goldstein as Pat, and Isaac Powell as Bryson. The series also features recurring guest stars Richard E. Grant as Peter and Daniel Brühl as Eric.
Set to premiere on Sunday, October 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, the series will also be available to stream on Max. ‘The Franchise’ promises to deliver a comedic and candid exploration of the superhero film industry, shedding light on the trials and tribulations of bringing a cinematic universe to life.
