Tom Cruise and Glen Powell are back together again, this time at the European premiere of Powell’s new film, “Twisters.” On Monday, July 8, Powell, 35, shared a photo on Instagram of himself reunited with his “Top Gun: Maverick” costar Cruise, 62, who came out to support him at the London event.
“When your wingman follows you into the storm … 😎🌪️🇬🇧,” Powell captioned the photo, which showed the duo with their arms around each other and holding buckets of popcorn inside the screening at Cineworld Leicester Square.
Powell’s reunion with Cruise comes two years after their successful collaboration in “Top Gun: Maverick,” where Powell played Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin alongside Cruise’s iconic Navy officer Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The film, released in May 2022 after several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, grossed almost $1.5 billion globally and became the fifth-highest-grossing movie of all time in the U.S.
Following the success of “Maverick,” there have been talks about a third installment in the “Top Gun” franchise. Powell briefly addressed these rumors at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, stating, “That is all classified.”
Powell and Cruise’s friendship has grown since their work on “Top Gun: Maverick.” Powell even earns a spot on Cruise’s exclusive list of recipients of his famous Christmas cake. On “The Jennifer Hudson Show” in November 2022, Powell shared that the cake is so delicious that his friends eagerly anticipate its arrival each December. He even hosts a “Cruise Cake Party” to share the treat with friends.
The actors’ reunion at the “Twisters” premiere highlights their ongoing camaraderie and the strong bond they formed while working on one of the biggest films of recent years. As Powell continues to make waves in Hollywood, it’s clear that his connection with Cruise remains a significant part of his journey.
