The Boys Season 5’s Ending Discussed by Creator Eric Kripke

The Boys Season 5 has been confirmed as the final season of the series, and showrunner Eric Kripke has provided insights into the planned conclusion. He indicates that the finale aims to both surprise and emotionally satisfy the audience.

The Boys Showrunner Reveals if Season 5 Will Have a Happy Ending

A recent report on The Boys disclosed that the series was initially considered for a movie trilogy directed by Adam McKay before Amazon Prime Video adapted it into a series. Eric Kripke also commented on the anticipated ending of Season 5 in the same report.

In a Rolling Stone article, Kripke shared that he is focused on creating an ending that will leave fans “emotionally satisfied” and “surprised.” He stated:

“I have an ending in mind, I’ll say that. I want it to be satisfying, right? I mean, you could count the great series finales on one hand. So it’s a real hard target. And I would want it to be emotionally satisfying but also surprising in how I’m delivering it.”

When asked if the series will conclude on a happy note, Kripke remarked:

“Anything worth having is worth fighting for. When something good in the show happens, I always ask, ‘What’s the cost?’”

Kripke elaborated further, stating that he envisions “a moral universe where when you choose love, family, and mercy, good things happen to you.” However, he noted that opting for hate and revenge tends to “cause as much harm to you as it does to the person you’re trying to enact vengeance on.”

Season 4 of The Boys continues to build tension, with Homelander becoming increasingly erratic, Billy Butcher seemingly nearing his end, and Victoria Neuman on the brink of reaching the Oval Office. The culmination of these plot lines in Season 5’s “satisfying” conclusion remains to be seen.

The first four episodes of The Boys Season 4 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
