Joining Anderson’s ensemble are Scarlett Johansson and Hanks, alongside regulars such as Jason Schwartzman, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, and Adrien Brody.

A Wes Anderson spin on an alien film – the Asteroid City trailer has arrived.

The preview (below) of Anderson’s newest creation, set in an imaginary American desert town around 1955, introduces Scarlett Johansson as an actress, Tom Hanks as a grumpy grandpa, and Jason Schwartzman as a recently bereaved husband attempting to repair his vehicle. Plus, there’s an extraterrestrial.

“I’m not fond of how that fellow stared at us, the alien. As if we’re doomed,” Schwartzman remarks amid the trailer, filled with delightful scenes in Anderson’s unmistakable style.

The film’s official description states: “A Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention’s agenda – designed to unite students and their families from all over the nation for camaraderie and academic rivalry – is dramatically interrupted by events that change the world.”

Johansson and Hanks, newcomers to Anderson’s world, team up with familiar faces such as Schwartzman, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum, Tony Revolori, and Liev Schreiber. The impressive all-star cast also features Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, and Jake Ryan.

Focus Features plans to launch the film with a limited release on June 16 before expanding it nationwide on June 23. Asteroid City is also targeting a premiere at Cannes, as Anderson is no stranger to the Croisette, having debuted his previous film, The French Dispatch, at the 2021 festival.
