Sony Pictures has recently announced an update to the release date of the eagerly anticipated fourth installment in the “Bad Boys” franchise. After facing delays, the movie, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, has had its release date shifted forward by one week. Previously expected in theaters on June 14, 2024, it will now hit the screens a week prior, on June 7. The commencement of production was confirmed by Smith after a temporary halt last year due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Production Resumes on “Bad Boys 4”
Resuming its legacy, the as-yet-untitled Bad Boys 4 movie witnesses the return of “Bad Boys for Life” directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The screenplay for this installment is written by Chris Bremmer. The film brings back some familiar faces, including Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nunez, John Salley, and DJ Khaled. Joining the Bad Boys team for the first time will be franchise newcomers Ioan Gruffudd, Rhea Seehorn, Joyner Lucas, Eric Dane, and Tasha Smith.
A Livelier Tone for “Bad Boys 4”
Director El Arbi confirmed that this sequel, compared to its 2020 predecessor, will plunge into a lighter, less dramatic, and more comedic universe. The movie aims to evoke much laughter, creating a joyful and entertaining theater experience. El Arbi pointed out that “the third one had the dramatic tone, with this one, it’s really our purpose to get people laughing and having a good time in the theater. Martin [Lawrence] is going to a higher level in this one. This is the culmination of the Marcus Burnett arc.”
Although further specifics on the plot remain undisclosed, fans expect to witness Martin Lawrence take his portrayal of Marcus Burnett to a new level of comedy.
