Disney+ Cancels ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ Series Amid Cost-Cutting Efforts

Two years have passed since Disney+ announced its plans to adapt the much-loved book series, “The Spiderwick Chronicles”, into a TV series. However, according to a report from Deadline, Disney+ has now withdrawn from the project as part of its recent strategy to trim costs. The surprising twist? The live-action adaptation wrapped up production earlier this year, leaving Paramount Television Studios in search of a new platform to host the completed series.

Disney+ is not only stepping away from “The Spiderwick Chronicles” but has also halted progress on the live-action series “Nautilus”, based on Captain Nemo’s adventures. The fate of “Nautilus” remains uncertain, with no definitive plans to now shop the project to other production houses. Disney+’s budget reduction drive hasn’t stopped here – it has caused several original shows from Disney+ and Hulu to be axed or removed entirely. Audiences now have to bid adieu to favorites like “Willow”, “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”, “Diary of a Future President”, “The Mysterious Benedict Society” and “Marvel’s Runaways”.

So, what can audiences expect from the “Spiderwick Chronicles” series?

The series centers around the Grace family – twin brothers Jared and Simon, their sister Mallory, and mother Helen. The family moves into their run-down ancestral home, only to stumble upon their great-great Uncle’s untold secret: a magical and sometimes menacing world of faeries.

The cast lineup for the series includes Lyon Daniels in the role of Jared Grace, Noah Cottrell as Simon Grace, Mychala Lee acting as Mallory Grace, Momona Tamada as Emiko, Alyvia Alyn Lind as Calliope, and Joy Bryant tackling the role of Helen Grace. The iconic Christian Slater plays the villainous ogre, Mulgarath. Showrunner Aron Eli Coleite executive produced the series, while Kat Coiro directed the opening two episodes.

It’s no secret that fans are excited to see the “Spiderwick Chronicles” series, and now they can get a sneak peek with the official YouTube trailer embedded below. Watch and let the magic unfold!
