Stranger Things S5: Will’s Role to Expand, Teases Show’s Co-Creator

Will Byers, portrayed by Noah Schnapp, is poised to claim the spotlight in the fifth and final season of Netflix’s hit show Stranger Things, as revealed by co-creator Ross Duffer.

In an interview with Variety, Duffer asserted that the concluding season of Stranger Things hinges on Will’s crucial role, which is integral in unifying the entire narrative.

According to Duffer, “Will takes a significant role once more in season 5, leading an emotional arc that we feel would ultimately knit the entire series together. He has always been seen as the young, introverted, and protected one. Will’s evolution is much more than just exploring his sexuality; it’s about him discovering and accepting himself as a maturing individual.”

The Journey of Will Byers in Stranger Things and the Upside Down

In the show’s inaugural season, conceived by siblings Matt and Ross Duffer, viewers watched with bated breath as Will was kidnapped by a terrifying creature and confined to a perilous realm known as the Upside Down. Subsequent seasons delve deeper into the character’s inexplicable bond to the Upside Down. It’s noteworthy that Schnapp publicly revealed that his character, Will Byers, is gay in July 2022.

Teasing about his character’s development in the fifth season, Schnapp shared, “My reaction as Will in season 5 may change substantially. I will embody a full comprehension of my identity. Celebrating these self-discoveries and channeling them into my character presents an exhilarating journey that I’m eager to embark on.”

Anticipation for the final season of Stranger Things continues to build, but a specific launch date remains elusive. This is due to the halt in production triggered by strikes initiated by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), demanding equitable remuneration, protection against artificial intelligence, among others.

Meanwhile, fans can revisit the thrilling world of Hawkins, Indiana, with the first four seasons of Stranger Things, currently available on Netflix.
