James Gunn’s Superman drops high octane final trailer

The final trailer for James Gunn’s latest cinematic juggling act, Superman, is here to make your teeth rattle and knees wobble. Released by Warner Bros., the film stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan stepping into the shoes of Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult brings his trademark sophistication (possibly including a monocle) to the role of the nefarious Lex Luthor.

A Super Overview

This shiny new iteration follows Superman as he embarks on his classic journey from the planet Krypton to Earth, where he must awkwardly juggle superpowers and journalism as Clark Kent. Imagine balancing world-saving with typo-fixing—a true superhero feat. The trailer shows Superman being urged to “stop messing around,” to which he replies, “I’m not messing around. I’m doing important stuff.” Like attempting to solve a jigsaw puzzle with X-ray vision.

Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion, also graces the screen, delivering the menacing warning, “Make a move, Big Blue.” Presumably, a dance-off was not considered an appropriate response—much to everyone’s disappointment.

The Cast That Flew In

Amid the chaos, we meet a kaleidoscope of co-stars, including Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and the ever-glamorous Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. Let’s not forget Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, meaning you’re going to need a scorecard just to keep track of shape-shifting antics.

In previously released teasers, Superman finds himself rescued by Krypto, the most upbeat of canines, in a scene that could only be described as WD-40’s dream come true. The faithful dog drags his master to the Fortress of Solitude, the ultimate man cave—not sponsored by IKEA. Robots, who courteously can’t feel appreciation, lend a hand as well.

The Big Blue Curtain Call

At CinemaCon earlier this year, the fresh-faced Corenswet reflected on the colossal honor of portraying the cape-wearing icon. “It’s a great honor to play a role that exists so clearly in the public consciousness,” he mused, possibly while practicing his posture for the next skyscraper rescue mission.

Keep your eyes peeled and your popcorn buckets large, because this Superman is set to kata-tater into theaters on July 11. Meanwhile, in another part of the cosmos, a toaster wonders if it, too, could one day be a superhero.
