Scrubs Revival Has to Relocate Because “Sacred Heart Hospital” is Now Condos

Bill Lawrence, the creative force behind several television juggernauts, is once again returning to familiar territory. A revival of the adored medical sitcom Scrubs was announced at the end of last year, with expectations that much of the original cast would reunite. Yet, fans should brace themselves for some changes—this time around, Sacred Heart Hospital won’t be what it once was. As Lawrence noted during a chat with The A.V. Club’s Drew Gillis at the WGA Awards, “The only bummer is that hospital is beautiful condos now on Riverside Drive in L.A. So we’ve gotta find a different creepy deserted hospital.”

For those unfamiliar with the show, Scrubs originally filmed at the North Hollywood Medical Center, and by the ninth season, it had made the move to Culver Studios. This reinvention married Sacred Heart with the fictional Winston University medical school, introducing subtle changes to the backdrop. So, while the sights may differ, this isn’t uncharted territory for the Scrubs universe.

As for the cast, some things might look a bit different after 15 years, with the notable exception of Christa Miller. On the WGA Awards carpet, she humorously claimed, “I’m not older than I was, but other people are.” Miller, who has graced not just Scrubs but also Shrinking and Cougar Town, joked about using CGI to set the revival one day after the original finale, insisting, “We’re gonna do it like Benjamin Button, and the show is gonna be CGI and everyone’s gonna be the same age. But not me, ’cause I normally look like that.”

Bill Lawrence previously addressed fans on Twitter, acknowledging the hesitations some might have about revisiting classic shows like Scrubs. However, the tight-knit relationships among the cast and crew seem to offer a compelling reason to bring the show back. “We’re all friends and hang out all the time anyway,” Miller shared during the same event, reinforcing their genuine camaraderie which evidently transcends the screen. She continued, “Everyone said it was the best gig they ever had. We all love each other and there’s no reason not to try it, and Bill thought long and hard about it, and I’m sure he has a good plan.”

Closing Credits

As we anticipate this revival, the date for when Scrubs will again scrub into action remains under wraps. Fans are left with the exciting knowledge that the old gang is back, reuniting in a fresh yet familiar way. Until then, they can hold onto the wit and humor that defined Scrubs, confident that Lawrence and his ensemble will bring Sacred Heart to life once more, albeit in a new setting.
