‘Nautilus’: Prime Video Releases First Trailer for Jules Verne Adaptation

Prime Video has finally unveiled the first trailer for Nautilus, a live-action series based on Jules Verne’s classic novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. The show dives into the origin story of Captain Nemo, portrayed as an Indian prince who was robbed of his birthright and family. The series follows Nemo as he steals a powerful prototype submarine and escapes into the Indian Ocean, determined to exact revenge against the ruthless East India Mercantile Company with his loyal crew by his side.

Nautilus has experienced an eventful production journey, initially planned for Disney+ before making stops at AMC and finally landing on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland, as well as Stan in Australia. Deadline previously reported that Disney decided to drop the series roughly a year ago, after which AMC picked it up. Around the same time, Disney also opted not to move forward with The Spiderwick Chronicles, which eventually found a home at Roku.

The series stars Shazad Latif as the enigmatic Captain Nemo, with Georgia Flood, Thierry Frémont, and Céline Menville also in the main cast. Guest appearances include Richard E. Grant, Anna Torv, and Noah Taylor, adding some extra star power to the ambitious production.

Nautilus has been developed and produced by Moonriver TV’s Xavier Marchand and Seven Stories’ Anand Tucker. James Dormer serves as the writer and executive producer, while Johanna Devereaux, Chris Loveall, Colleen Woodcock, and Daisy Gilbert join as additional executive producers. Cameron Welsh is on board as the series producer, and Michael Matthews is credited as the lead director, with Ben Lucas and Isabelle Sieb directing later episodes.

Set against the vast and treacherous Indian Ocean, Nautilus aims to reintroduce viewers to the gripping world of Jules Verne’s creation, this time focusing on the heart and motivations of the man behind the submarine. With its international cast and high production values, the series hopes to deliver a fresh take on a beloved tale.
