Marvel and Former ‘X-Men ’97’ Boss Doing Laundry in Public

The split between Beau DeMayo and Marvel Studios has erupted into a public dispute, with accusations flying from both sides.

Former ‘X-Men ’97’ showrunner Beau DeMayo claims Marvel removed his credits from the upcoming season after he posted Pride-themed fan art. According to DeMayo, the studio informed him of this decision following a social media post where he shared an image of himself as Cyclops, styled in a Pride-friendly manner.

DeMayo took to Instagram to voice his frustration and thank fans for their support, suggesting that his Pride post led to retaliation from Marvel. However, Marvel has countered with a very different story. The studio issued a statement saying DeMayo was fired in March 2024 following an internal investigation, citing “egregious” behavior. Reports from insiders claim the investigation focused on allegations of “sexual misconduct,” leading to his termination.

Despite being dismissed, DeMayo completed his work on the second season of ‘X-Men ’97’ before his departure. The series, which revived the beloved animated show, received positive feedback for its design and nostalgic appeal. Yet, DeMayo’s credits were reportedly removed due to a violation of a separation agreement, rather than the social media post he referenced.

Marvel and DeMayo have not provided further comments, leaving fans to speculate on the true nature of the fallout. DeMayo’s past work includes writing for ‘Moon Knight’ and contributing to the screenplay for the upcoming ‘Blade’ reboot.

The situation remains tense as the second season of ‘X-Men ’97’ moves forward without its original showrunner, casting uncertainty over the future of the series.
