MGM+ Takes a Crack at Prestige Crime Series Trend in Hotel Cocaine

Amazon MGM Studios Distribution will partner with MGM+ to release the upcoming crime series, ‘Hotel Cocaine.’ The show is inspired by popular crime series on streaming platforms, including Netflix’s successful ‘Narcos’ and ‘Narcos: Mexico’ and Amazon’s ‘ZeroZeroZero’. The lead role is played by Danny Pino, known for his performances in gritty crime dramas like ‘Mayans M.C.’ and ‘Law & Order: SVU’. ‘Hotel Cocaine’ promises a dive into the cocaine scene of Miami in the 1970s and 1980s.

Series Storyline

Spanning eight episodes, ‘Hotel Cocaine’ revolves around the infamous Mutiny Hotel in Miami, Florida. Danny Pino stars as Roman Compte, the hotel’s Cuban-exile general manager. Accompanying him is Yul Vasquez who plays Nestor Cabal, Roman’s brother and key supplier of cocaine. The series will not only spotlight infamous parties at the Mutiny Hotel, but also the involvement of dubious customs agents and other intriguing characters. Information about possible appearances of real-life figures like Griselda Blanco is yet to be disclosed.

The Mutiny Hotel was a renowned hot spot for music stars, sports personalities, and narcotics traffickers. It even featured as a backdrop in the Al Pacino blockbuster ‘Scarface’, although the hotel scenes were famously replicated elsewhere for the film’s production. According to MGM+’s synopsis, the Mutiny Hotel was the “Casablanca on cocaine”, a hub of glitz and glamour that attracted esteemed businessmen, politicians, federal agents, models, and entertainers.

Danny Pino as Roman Compte takes center stage at the glitzy Mutiny Club, surrounded by many other intriguing personalities. The cast includes Don Mike portraying Omar the maitre’d, Pedro Giunti as Nestor’s henchman, and Lola Claire and Candy Santana in the roles of prominent Mutiny Girls. Other key players include Matthew Del Negro, Victor Oliveira, Robert Beck, and Sam Robards.
