Kristen Stewart has expressed her reticence towards joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Despite previous fandom speculation about her potential involvement in superhero films, she gave insight into her current lack of desire to participate in any Marvel projects during a recent podcast interaction.
Stewart’s Thoughts on Marvel
While appearing on the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast, cited by Variety, the actress held no bars in expressing her viewpoints. Stewart stated, “I will likely never do a Marvel movie … it sounds like a nightmare, actually.” Further, she emphasized that a significant change in the system of film-making would be necessary for her to consider it.
Stewart also mentioned how such large-scale projects demand extensive money and trust invested in a single individual – a scenario that she believes doesn’t usually occur. Consequently, she feels that this leads to an impersonal, algorithmic experience. However, in the spirit of open-mindedness, she did suggest the possibility of her participation in the future with the phrase, “But maybe the world changes.”
Stewart’s Past Interest in Superhero Movies
Interestingly, despite Stewart’s clear stand on the MCU, she has previously demonstrated a level of interest in superhero movies. In a 2021 interview with Variety, she responded enthusiastically to a social media campaign urging her to take on the role of The Joker. She appreciated the enthusiasm behind the idea but indicated that she would prefer identifying another role for herself, stating that she’s “totally down to play a freaky, scary person.”
Wrapping Up
Although Kristen Stewart has displayed an openness towards portraying unconventional characters in superhero movies, she currently does not wish to be a part of the MCU. In her view, the systematic changes required for her to consider such parts are currently non-existent. Nevertheless, she remains open to future opportunities that align with her preferences.
