A new spin-off of the popular television show Game of Thrones could be on the horizon. This time, the focus would be on the character Aegon I Targaryen. According to Variety, HBO is currently searching for a writer to begin work on the project. The company is eager to move quickly on this new venture, and the show may even begin with a feature film before expanding into a full television series.
The series would take place around 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and would follow the story of Aegon I Targaryen, Visenya, and Rhaenys. The trio, along with their dragons, conquer six of Westeros’ seven kingdoms, with Aegon I ultimately becoming the first king to rule them all.
This potential new spin-off follows last year’s House of the Dragon, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. The series tells the story of the rise and fall of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria, and takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The second and third seasons of House of the Dragon have already been planned out, according to reports.
As fans eagerly await any new developments in the Game of Thrones universe, this new spin-off could be the next exciting chapter in the popular franchise. There are several spin-offs in the works: 10,000 Ships, The Sea Snake, The Golden Empire, Yi Ti animated series (no title and few details so far), Tales of Dunk & Egg, The Jon Snow Sequel Series.
With dragons, epic battles, and a rich world full of complex characters, there is no shortage of story material for producers to pull from. Those who enjoyed Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon will no doubt have high hopes for this latest project, and it remains to be seen whether it will be as successful as its predecessors.
