MCU Star Heartbroken Over Being Cut From Dune 2

Actor Tim Blake Nelson was set to feature in Denis Villenueve’s Dune: Part Two, but his role was unfortunately removed from the film. Disappointed but undeterred, Nelson is promoting his latest film Asleep in My Palm, a grounded exploration of fatherhood and class in rural Ohio. Nelson is also set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe reprising his role as The Leader in Captain America: Brave New World.

From Dune to Asleep in My Palm

Providing an unexpected turn of events, Nelson disclosed in an interview with MovieWeb that he was supposed to feature in Denis Villenueve’s sequel to his 2021 epic, Dune. The movie has been appreciated for its stunning visuals and for being a faithful adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel – achievements reflected in the film’s reviews and impressive opening box office numbers. Nelson’s role, however, ended up being cut in the process of trimming the movie’s runtime.

Nelson chose not to disclose the details of the scene he was supposed to feature in but shared that he was “heartbroken” over the removal. Despite his disappointment, he expressed his wish to collaborate with Denis Villenueve on future projects.

Asleep in My Palm: An Exploration of Fatherhood and Class

Despite the setback faced with Dune: Part Two, Nelson is busy with the promotion for Asleep in My Palm. Directed by Nelson’s son, Henry Nelson, the film provides a stark contrast to the fantastical realm of Dune. It incorporates a heartfelt perspective on parenthood and class complexities in rural Ohio. The film has managed to garner positive reviews, with critics drawing analogies to a “powerful fable” and contemporary takes on the works of John Steinbeck.

A Return to the Marvel Universe

One of the most prominent projects on Nelson’s horizon is his return as Samuel Sterns aka The Leader, in next year’s superhero sequel Captain America: Brave New World. While the specifics of The Leader’s role in the film remain under wraps, Nelson has assured that fans will see a more comic-accurate depiction of the character, a move that aligns with rectifying past complaints in relation to character portrayals in The Incredible Hulk.

Asleep in My Palm promises to be a captivating chronicle when it releases on March 19, 2024.
