The much-anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 film Dune, titled “Dune: Part Two”, is predicted to make over $65 million domestically in its opening weekend. This forecast surpasses the first installment’s $41 million opening. “Dune: Part One” ultimately made $402 million worldwide. This success is expected to be bolstered by intriguing plot developments, including the complex love story between Zendaya’s character and Paul.
Zendaya Offers Insight into Content Changes
Zendaya, who plays Chani in the Dune series, has hinted that her character’s relationship with Paul (played by Timothée Chalamet) could be more complex in the film than in the original 1965 novel. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, the actress gave some insights into the upcoming sequel’s plot.
“I think, talking about how there are some character changes and differences, something Denis really found for Chani is allowing her to have her own mind and spirit when it comes to her perception of Paul and what she thinks of him. I think what that allows for, and also what he represents to her, is something a little bit more complicated and something that she has to fight against,” Zendaya stated.
The actress further comments on Chani’s struggle with vulnerability and openness in her relationship with Paul, which could potentially alter the storyline and audience expectations.
“The love story isn’t necessarily just given; it’s not something that to her even feels natural. I don’t think she’s ever even allowed herself to think of the concept of falling in love, and now it’s being presented in the least likely person. I think there’s a lot of weight to that, and just the sheer amount it would take for her to be vulnerable with somebody or open up to someone is big,” she continued.
