Peacock has unveiled the official trailer for its first original adult animated comedy series, “In the Know,” along with a host of A-list live-action guests who are set to appear on the show. This one-of-a-kind series cleverly combines meticulous stop-motion animation with tantalizing live-action interviews. The star-studded line-up includes bigwigs like Kaia Gerber, Ken Burns, Finn Wolfhard, Norah Jones, Mike Tyson, Hugh Laurie, and many more. Peacock’s ‘In The Know’ shares similarities with ‘Space Ghost: Coast to Coast’ in its approach to celebrity interviews. Like ‘Space Ghost,’ this show combines animation with live-action, creating an unusual interview environment. The main character, a stop-motion puppet, conducts interviews with real guests, echoing the unexpected and humorous style of ‘Space Ghost.’ However, ‘In The Know’ diverges by incorporating a more traditional talk show format alongside its animation, offering a new variation on the mixed-media interview style that ‘Space Ghost: Coast to Coast’ popularized.
Meet the Voices Behind “In the Know”
The show is created by a trio of familiar faces – Zach Woods (Silicon Valley, Avenue 5, The Office), Brandon Gardner, and Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill). Alongside them, the ShadowMachine animation studio (known for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and BoJack Horseman) has worked their magic to realize this project.
The animation team outlines the core concept of the show: “Lauren Caspian is NPR’s third most popular host. He’s a well-meaning, hypocritical nimrod, just like you and me. He’s also a stop-motion puppet. Each episode follows the making of an episode of Lauren’s show In the Know, in which Lauren conducts in-depth interviews with real-world human guests. Lauren collaborates with a diverse crew of NPR staff. They are also puppets and nimrods.”
Pulling the Puppet Strings
Behind the puppet personas are a bunch of talented vocal artists. The host, Lauren Caspian, is voiced by Zach Woods, who is joined by Mike Judge as “Sandy,” Caitlin Reilly as “Fabian,” Charlie Bushnell as “Chase,” J. Smith-Cameron as “Barb,” and Carl Tart as “Carl.” The creators of the show have expressed their love for public radio and shared their eagerness to challenge their own comfort zones by connecting with different people through this unique show.
Zach Woods and Brandon Gardner released a joint statement saying, “We love public radio. It’s engaging and comforting… it also reflects aspects of ourselves that we’re embarrassed by… We’re privileged, well-intentioned, guilty hypocrites… As we get more isolated in our respective echo chambers, we’re desperate to connect with people who are different from us through honest conversation and humor.”
