Oscar-Winner Mahershala Ali Hyped for Blade Reboot

Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali is feeling confident over the anticipated ‘Blade’ reboot, projecting a positive vibe about the project’s fresh direction. While the journey of the MCU ‘Blade’ film has not been without its ups and downs, Ali seems now to be quite pleased with the hiring of ‘Logan’ writer Michael Green and the subsequent direction of the ‘Blade’ reboot.

“We’re working on it. That’s the best I could tell you. I’m really encouraged with the direction of the project. I think we’ll be back at it relatively soon.”

Six weeks before production was set to begin, the ‘Blade’ reboot recording came to a halt as “creative differences” rippled through the team, causing a shuffling of writers and directors. Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, was reportedly dissatisfied with what was unfolding and decided to stop the movie close to production, opting instead to enlist Oscar-nominated writer Michael Green and reschedule the release to November 2025.

The ‘Blade’ reboot is not the first time Ali has been eyeing a Marvel project with a hopeful stance. In an interview with EW, the actor expressed his excitement over ‘Lovecraft Country’ director Yann Demange helming the film.

“I’m sincerely encouraged in terms of where things are at and who’s on board and who’s leading the way as far as the writing of the script and the directing and all that. So that’s the extent of what I can tell you.”

Marvel’s Blade Reboot Will Be R-Rated

Details about the ‘Blade’ reboot are sparse, but it’s believed that the reboot will spotlight the enigmatic Ebony Blade first shown in 2021’s ‘Eternals.’ There are inklings that ‘Blade’ might also introduce the vampire hunter’s daughter, Fallon Grey, who shares her father’s powers and assists him in battling monsters.

Significantly, ‘Blade’ has secured an R-rating, promising an unflinching portrayal of the bloodshed associated with the Daywalker’s duties. Yann Demange, the film’s director, expressed his enthusiasm over the rating in an interview.

“They gave me the R, which is so important.”

Demange also shared his anticipation for audiences to witness Ali’s portrayal of the revered Marvel character, praising the actor’s ability to embody ruthlessness and dignity.

“For Blade, we are going to have fun because Mahershala is such a deep actor. I’m excited to show a kind of ruthlessness, a roughness he has, that allows him to walk the earth in a particular way. I love him for that. He’s got a dignity and integrity, but there is a ferocity there that he usually keeps under the surface. I want to unleash that and put it on the screen.”

‘Blade’ is slated for a November 7, 2025 release as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Also included in this phase are the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot, the team-up film ‘Thunderbolts’ from director Jake Schreier, and the two ‘Avengers’ sequels ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ expected to premiere in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
