Walton Goggins Dishes on His “Ruthless” Fallout Character, The Ghoul

Welcome to the post-apocalyptic world of ‘Fallout’ where actor Walton Goggins is leaving his mark as the intriguing character, The Ghoul. In a recent reveal, Goggins has given us a sneak peek into the role that’s as “ruthless as they come”. Oh, and he’s been wandering the Wasteland for two centuries!

“He’s not a ghoul from the game. He’s kind of a new entity. He’s been around for 200 years walking the Wasteland. He survived the nuclear war. He is a bounty hunter. He is as ruthless as they come. Pragmatic. He’s a rascal. He’s got a wicked sense of humor.”

When it comes to his character, this ghoul diverges a bit from the ones you’d find in the original ‘Fallout’ video game. The Ghoul was formerly named Cooper Howard, the star of a Western series titled ‘The Man from Deadhorse’. He also had a family before the war. What a trip down memory lane!

Walton Goggins Turns to the Wild West for Inspiration

When it comes to inspiration, Goggins didn’t delve into the world of the ‘Fallout’ video game. Instead, he took a page from the Western classics, tapping into the iconic roles of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood to bring authenticity to his ruthless Ghoul.

“I didn’t want to do an interpretation of a ghoul in a game. I think that my job and the way that I could help my writers and my director is by keeping my distance from it and keeping them honest. I didn’t have that as an influence, and therefore, I was uninfluenced.”

Finally, Goggins dropped a hint as to why The Ghoul is indeed the perfect role for him. With The Ghoul, you’ll never know if you’ve got a friend or enemy on your hands. Now that’s some next-level unpredictability we can’t wait to see unfold on screen!

“He’s a lot of fun. I’d say he could be your best friend and your worst f—ing enemy, but he doesn’t have friends, so he’ll only be your enemy.”

Curated by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the creators of ‘Westworld’, and starring Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, and more, ‘Fallout’ is set to premiere on 12 April on Prime Video. We can’t wait to delve into the irradiated hellscape and the gleefully weird and highly violent universe that has stood the test of over 200 years since the apocalypse.
