Jodie Comer, Austin Butler & Tom Hardy Rev Up for ‘The Bikeriders’ First Trailer

Seven years after captivating audiences with Midnight Special and Loving, director Jeff Nichols is revving up for his next cinematic journey, The Bikeriders. This star-packed drama, featuring the likes of Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Michael Shannon, finally reveals its first trailer and poster, promising a turbulent decade-long ride through the 1960s American motorcycle club scene.

The Stellar Cast Assembled

Nichols has gathered an impressive ensemble for The Bikeriders, including Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, and Mike Faist. With such a wealth of talent, it’s no wonder the film has already generated considerable buzz, especially following its premiere at the Telluride Film Festival.

Release Details and Anticipation

Mark your calendars for December 1, as that’s when this star-studded drama will hit the big screens. The first trailer and poster have already captivated audiences, offering a sneak peek into what promises to be an emotional and gritty portrayal of motorcycle club culture in the 1960s.

The Story at Its Core

The film is inspired by the iconic photography of Danny Lyon, specifically his ‘The Bikeriders’ series. Nichols reimagines a fictionalized Chicago motorcycle club known as the Vandals. Interestingly, while motorcycle clubs might be considered an American staple, Nichols has chosen two British actors for lead roles. Jodie Comer narrates the story as Kathy, and Tom Hardy plays Johnny, a truck driver inspired to start a motorcycle club after watching Marlon Brando’s The Wild One.

The Telluride Review

The film received mixed reviews at its Telluride premiere. Adopting a Midwest accent flashy enough to ensure sustained awards-season chatter, Comer narrates the story with a clear Goodfellas conceit. Tom Hardy’s character Johnny is inspired by Marlon Brando’s The Wild One, setting a low-stakes “why not?” tone for founding the club. However, following the Goodfellas arc, the film’s rise-and-fall narrative ultimately plays too conventional.
