Netflix is serving up sibling rivalry with a side of debt, crime, and betrayal in its upcoming limited series Black Rabbit, dropping Sept. 18. The newly released trailer teases Jude Law and Jason Bateman as estranged brothers whose uneasy reunion threatens to blow up everything they’ve built — or rather, what Jake Friedken (Law) has built, since Vince Friedken (Bateman) shows up dragging a mountain of debt behind him.
The family drama isn’t just about late-night drinks and shady deals. Jake owns the Black Rabbit, one of New York’s hottest restaurants, and his brother’s return puts the entire empire at risk. Enter Joe Mancuso (played by Oscar-winner Troy Kotsur), the kind of creditor you don’t want knocking on your door, and suddenly the brothers are racing to pay off years of accumulated debt while trying not to get buried in the process.

“Everything’s falling apart. My family, the restaurant. I’m holding on by the skin of my teeth. I didn’t budget for you,” Jake growls in the trailer, making it clear that Vince’s reappearance is less heartwarming reunion and more existential crisis.
Black Rabbit was created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, who previously teamed on The Order (2024). Bateman not only stars but also directs the first two episodes — his first time behind the camera since closing out Ozark in 2022. He’s joined in the director’s lineup by Laura Linney (who helmed episodes three and four), Ben Semanoff (episodes five and six), and Justin Kurzel (final two episodes). Writers include Baylin, Susman, Andrew Hinderaker, Sarah Gubbins, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, and Carlos Rios.
The ensemble cast features Cleopatra Coleman, Amaka Okafor, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù, Abbey Lee, Chris Coy, Dagmara Dominczyk, Odessa Young, and Robin De Jesus, among others. With that much talent on screen and behind the scenes, Netflix is clearly betting that Black Rabbit will land big with fans of gritty family dramas.

The series will make its world premiere in the Primetime section of the Toronto International Film Festival in early September before heading to Netflix worldwide on Sept. 18. Expect sibling tension, mounting debts, and no shortage of double-crosses when the Friedken brothers hit streaming.
