The Old Guard 2: Uma Thurman joins Theron in Netflix sequel

Charlize Theron is back with her trusty team of ageless warriors in “The Old Guard 2,” ready to stream on Netflix from July 2. This time, they’re up against a foe who probably knows more secrets than your grandma’s diary—portrayed by Uma Thurman, because why not?

Immortal Shenanigans

Directed by Victoria Mahoney, the sequel brings back familiar faces like KiKi Layne, Luca Marinelli, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Joining the chaotic fun are newcomers Thurman and Henry Golding, the latter of whom once ominously warned Theron in the trailer, “I am scared of what she is capable of.” (Aren’t we all, Henry, aren’t we all?)

Mortality is so Last Season

The plot centers around Theron’s character, Andromache of Scythia, or Andy for her close immortal pals, who is wrestling with newfound mortality. Because why only wrestle with weighty concepts at 3 a.m.? Let’s do it on the silver screen!

Meanwhile, right after Golding gets all cryptic, there’s a juicy bit where Theron ponders aloud, “Do you think she knows that I’ve lost my immortality?” Spoiler alert: probably, because dramatic tension.

Behind the Camera

Mahoney, who was a second-unit director for “The Rise of Skywalker” (read: experienced in epic space waltzes), directs from a script by Greg Rucka and Sarah L. Walker. Rucka, who might as well have the title “Lord of the Graphic Novel,” co-scripted the first film with artistic partner Leandro Fernandez.

Action for the Ages

As a producer, Theron promises the film offers “something for everyone,” including:

– Insane action
Grounded, relatable characters
– Gorgeous locations
– A global cast of superstars

Basically, everything except the kitchen sink, unless it’s hidden somewhere as a metaphor.

If you’re intrigued by Theron’s new quest or simply need more mortar for your pyramid of Netflix recommendations, “The Old Guard 2” is ticking all the boxes. Ponder the imponderable—What would happen if jellybeans gained sentience?
