Zendaya Speaks on Euphoria Season 3—And She’s Just as in the Dark as We Are

Few shows have ever carried as much speculation, drama, and sheer fan panic around their third seasons as Euphoria. It’s been over two and a half years—or as some might say, “one disastrous Weeknd vanity project”—since HBO’s eye-popping high school drama aired fresh episodes. Since then, the series has faced an onslaught of shock firings, tragic cast and crew deaths, and what sounds like a heap of scrapped scripts, as creators try to figure out how a bunch of almost-30-year-olds can keep playing high schoolers. Most of the cast’s answers to questions about season 3 have amounted to “Your guess is as good as mine,” with the press tour overshadowed by rumors of a rift between creator Sam Levinson and the late producer Kevin Turen. Now, Zendaya, the show’s lead and executive producer, has finally broken her silence—sort of.

On Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, Zendaya addressed the mystery shrouding Euphoria’s third season. But if you were hoping for spoilers, you might want to sit down. The Challengers star’s remarks mostly echoed HBO’s official party line: that all reports of turmoil have been overblown, season 3 is indeed happening, and everyone involved is just taking their sweet time. The network assures us the show will be back in 2025, and Zendaya mostly leaned into that narrative, focusing her comments on the time jump that’s apparently in the works—a necessity, given the aging cast.

“I don’t quite know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know that the time jump is happening,” Zendaya revealed. This, on its own, is a pretty wild statement—considering Zendaya is not only the star but an executive producer who’s reportedly been heavily involved in shaping the new season. “I don’t actually know much about what is happening… It will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school and how all the stuff that we saw when they were kids and they were in high school affects the adulthood they have and who they become in a much bigger world. I’ll be interested to see what happens too.”

While Zendaya’s comments confirm that season 3 is still in the works, it’s not exactly a satisfying update for fans dying to know what’s been going on behind the scenes. There’s still no word on the rumored scrapped storylines, including the eyebrow-raising idea of Rue turning into a private detective that Sam Levinson allegedly pitched and everyone else promptly rejected. For now, we’ll just have to wait for 2025 and hope that Euphoria’s next chapter lives up to the hype—and survives its own behind-the-scenes chaos.
