The iconic Scream franchise is coming back for its seventh installment, and fans can mark their calendars—Scream VII will hit theaters on February 27, 2026. The big news? Neve Campbell is returning to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott after sitting out the last film due to a salary dispute.
Neve Campbell’s Triumphant Return
Campbell’s return has been a game-changer for the franchise. Earlier this year, she announced she’d be stepping back into the world of Scream, a move that’s breathed new life into the series. Along with Campbell’s return, Kevin Williamson, the creator of the franchise and the writer behind the original 1996 Scream, will also be back, this time as the director. Williamson previously penned Scream 2 and Scream 4, making him a key figure in the franchise’s enduring success.
A Revived Franchise After Major Changes
Scream VII comes after a tumultuous period for the production. Melissa Barrera, who starred in Scream VI, was fired due to controversial social media posts during the Israel-Hamas War. Additionally, Jenna Ortega, another key player in the previous films, quietly exited the project months earlier. In light of these exits, original director Christopher Landon also stepped away, leading to a major creative shift.
Radio Silence Passes the Torch
The previous two films, directed by the filmmaking trio known as Radio Silence, brought the Scream series back into the spotlight. Their 2022 Scream brought back Campbell and grossed $166.3 million globally, with a record-breaking $44.5 million opening weekend for Scream VI. However, for Scream VII, the torch has been passed back to Williamson, with Guy Busick, writer of the 2022 film, taking over scriptwriting duties from James Vanderbilt.
Produced by James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein, Scream VII is poised to revive the franchise’s original spirit while continuing its legacy of thrilling horror and unexpected twists.
