With the successful release of “The Northman,” director Robert Eggers didn’t take long to dive into another ambitious project—his modern rendition of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 German Expressionist film, “Nosferatu.” This project, inspired by Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” showcases a stellar cast including Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson. The newly released full-length trailer promises to deliver a chilling experience.
The film’s official synopsis states: “Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosferatu’ is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
Eggers, known for his work on “The Witch,” describes the film as a true return to form for the genre: “Yeah, it’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie,” he explained. “And I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.” He also highlighted Bill Skarsgård’s transformation into the eerie vampire, expressing concern that the actor’s complete immersion in the role might overshadow his performance: “I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there.”
As “Nosferatu” prepares to haunt audiences, Eggers’ adaptation looks set to become a new benchmark in horror filmmaking.
