Diablo 4 Season 5 Debuts Rogue-Lite Mode ‘Infernal Hordes’

Diablo 4 will debut its fifth season with an exciting new feature: a wave-based rogue-lite mode. This mode offers players fresh challenges and opportunities to earn unique rewards.

Introducing the Infernal Hordes Mode

Players can unlock the Infernal Hordes mode by using an Infernal Compass, which scales in difficulty based on the world tier. Within this mode, players will accumulate Burning Aether, a resource necessary for unlocking powerful weapons and rewards. Upon successfully slaying the hordes, players will face the Fell Council, consisting of three random minibosses. Defeating these bosses allows players to spend their Burning Aether on “Spoils of Hell.” These include Spoils of Equipment, Materials, Gold, or Greater Equipment, which guarantees an item with a Greater Affix.

Wave Duration and Modifiers

Each wave in this new mode is time-limited, lasting 90 seconds. Players must defeat remaining foes before choosing from three Boons & Banes, known as Infernal Offers, which modify their run. These modifiers stack, and Blizzard advises players to choose wisely. Harder difficulties result in better rewards.

“Helltides were only the beginning of the horrors lying in wait,” the Diablo 4 team teases. “Confront seemingly endless waves of Hell’s Legions in the Realm of Hatred, as the Infernal Hordes grow more powerful with each passing day.”

Early Access and Public Test Realm

Interested players can access the new mode early by participating in the Public Test Realm (PTR). The PTR will be available for a week, starting tomorrow, Tuesday 25th June, and closing on 2nd July. Other players will have to wait until Season 5 goes live.

Additional Events and Community Engagement

As a gesture of appreciation for the Diablo community, the March of the Goblins event is ongoing, offering numerous rewards to participants. This event is accessible across both Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal.

Popularity on the Xbox Console

Despite its strong association with the PC gaming community, Diablo 4 has shown considerable popularity on the Xbox console system. An email from Xbox president Sarah Bond in April indicated its higher user base on Xbox compared to PC and PlayStation consoles.
