The circle is now complete. Mexican restaurant Casa Bonita, famously showcased in a 2003 episode of South Park, is the subject of the new documentary ¡CASA BONITA MI AMOR!. Following its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival this month, co-owners and South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone provided insights into the renovations and notable visitors of the iconic establishment, including members of the band The Cure.
The Cure’s Visit to Casa Bonita
According to Denver-based publication Westword, Parker invited The Cure to Casa Bonita during their tour stop in Denver last June. Singer Robert Smith, who had previously guest-starred on South Park, was reportedly astonished upon arrival, remarking, “wow, this is mental”. Initially expecting a simple taco dinner, Smith was surprised by the restaurant’s cliff divers and other attractions. One particular highlight for Smith was the use of The Cure’s song “The Blood” from the 1985 album The Head on the Door within one of the restaurant’s features, which he described as “the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.”
Upcoming Documentary and South Park Season
The documentary, ¡CASA BONITA MI AMOR!, is expected to be available for streaming later this year. Meanwhile, the 27th season of South Park has yet to receive a premiere date.
